Living What I Love…

In Germany we say “Liebe geht durch den Magen” — love goes through the stomach.
And honestly, I live by it. There’s nothing better than inviting someone into your world through the food you make — a quiet little “here, this is me” served on a plate.
From 9–5, I’m an engineer in the medical device industry — not exactly the most creative job, despite what people imagine. But after work and on the weekends? That’s when I get to fly, at least in culinary terms.
My daughter has even awarded me the unofficial medal of chefs. Take that, Michelin.

I have been cooking since I have been 9 years old.

My first job in the kitchen was battering Schnitzels on Sundays — flour everywhere, pride in every piece. By 11, I had two ways to make German pancakes, depending on what we had at home. In college, I had to be resourceful, and that’s really where my creativity in the kitchen began. I tried to recreate American dishes we couldn’t find in Germany — partly out of curiosity, partly to charm the man who’s now my husband.

Today, I cook anything and everything we love as a family of our own. The recipes have changed, but the joy hasn’t.

An expat life doesn’t come easy — but it sure comes with stories

It doesn’t matter how prepared you think you are before you leave the familiar for a new life — some hurdles and cultural differences are so unexpected, they practically demand to be turned into stories.
There is still day‑to‑day heartache in being far from the place I also call home. Yet Minnesota is my home.
And in between those two truths, life happens: the rat race, the paperwork, the winter, the constant balancing act of being a mom to a special‑needs child, and that quiet feeling of not fully fitting in — except when I look into my partner’s eyes and remember why I chose this life in the first place
